Attorney Speaks to High School Seniors

Jay Jackson - HS Speech 4-12-2010On Monday, April 12, 2010, Jay Jackson, one of the attorneys with ABRAHAM, WATKINS, NICHOLS, SORRELS, AGOSTO & FRIEND, was invited to speak to high school seniors at The Woodlands Christian Academy about the nature and importance of jury service.

Mr. Jackson talked with government class taught by Jerry Bradshaw. In the fast-paced presentation, Mr. Jackson provided insight into the nature of the court system, how jurors are called for service, how they are assigned to and selected for individual cases, and how a case proceeds through trial. Students also learned about how the Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution is respected during a trial. The speech was enlivened with examples from real-life court cases, and Mr. Jackson provided descriptions of how jury selection is conducted. The class concluded with an opportunity for the seniors to consider the facts of a dispute and deliberate like real jurors with forms and definitions used in the resolution of actual civil cases.

Mr. Jackson is a member of the Houston Bar Association, and he volunteers for the Speakers' Bureau. That is a program of the HBA which provides speakers upon request to educate the public about the law. Both the HBA and ABRAHAM, WATKINS are passionately committed to the jury trial system of justice in America.
