Maritime & Admiralty

Houston, Galveston and Gulf Coast Maritime Lawyers

Because our office is located in Houston, Texas, we help great numbers of injured merchant seamen, fishermen, longshoremen, harbor workers, passengers and pleasure boaters who have been injured in and around the Gulf of Mexico. Offshore injuries can call for application of Admiralty and Maritime law and various other laws, rules and regulations that apply to injuries occurring on and around the water. The laws that will apply to your particular situation depend on who you are, where you were and what you were doing when you were injured. An experienced admiralty and maritime attorney can make all the difference in the world in obtaining the compensation you need.

Seamen Injuries

The Jones Act provides an injured seaman a remedy against employers for maritime injury arising from negligent acts of the employer or co-workers during the course of employment on a vessel. Claims brought under the Jones Act can also raise claims against a vessel's owner that a vessel was not seaworthy. If a seaman dies, a wrongful death claim may be based on the Jones Act, general maritime law, or the Death on the High Seas Act.

Offshore Injuries

We frequently represent oil and gas industry workers who have been injured working on drilling rigs (semi-submersible rigs and jack-up rigs), lay barges, drilling ships, supply boats and crew boats which service drilling rigs. We also handle non-vessel injuries, including those that occur on fixed platforms.

Pleasure Boat Accidents

Rules established by the Coast Guard and various state agencies outline the rules for safe boating. What many recreational boat and personal watercraft operators don't know is that they are subject to the same laws and rules as ocean-going vessels and other commercial operators. Filing a claim against a negligent boat or watercraft operator is typically complicated and may involve the highly specialized application of admiralty laws.
